Members zesty brick
thinking about tricking out an sx jazz bass, think i could just do it myself, is there some sort of internet guide, or should i get a music shop to do it for me
Members Crescent Seven
Can you solder? Can you read a wiring diagram? Do you own a screwdriver? If you answered "yes" to all three of these questions, you're the perfect candidate for a bass upgrade project. Even if you're not that good at soldering, buying an SX and doing the mods on it is a great way to learn how to fix your own basses without having to do trial and error on a Stingray or a Spector or something. If you decide to do it and have questions about some of the processes, just ask. Many of us have done the mods on SX's and other basses. Here's mine, with Badass bridge, MIM Fender pickups, and upgraded pots:
Members Thumper
I think most of the HCBF SX owners were shop rats in middle school. As long as you know which end of a soldering gun to pick up, and know the difference between a phillips and a flat head screwdriver, you're good to go. Members Seeds
Just a little heads up.. you may need to do some type of fretwork as well. I have had a good number of these basses and some came in with great fretwork, and some needed anything from a little filing to a complete dress/level. Also be careful with the screws on the bass as they will strip very easily if your not careful. All in all they are great basses for a little cash and a great modding platform.Have fun with it.
