Members Peaveyherman
it depends on what sound you are looking for Right now,i have it in the last socket starting from the left (standing in front of the face plate, looking down). The sound is very thick and meaty. Just curious how it came from the factory.

Members jannda
Which ever one it fits in. The au is lower gain than the Ax so it can go in any of the pre amp sockets try putting it in 1 first then in 2 and so on until you find a spot where you like it. My schematic lists sockets1/3/4 as12DW7 and 2 as 12AX7 and 5 as a 6C4 in the preamp and sockets in the power amp as 1=12DW7 2/3=12BH7 and 4/5/6/7/8/9 as 6146B or 8298A. Hope that helps

The 12DW7, 6146B, and 8298A haven't been made for YEARS.

Members Rippin' Robin
Hi Robin,The 12AU7 should go in the 2nd socket from the right, assuming you're looking at the front of the unit. Its not necessary for all the tubes to be the same brand. We generally use Sovtek brand 12AX7's and an Electro-Harmonix brand 12AU7.Thanks for your support in Ampeg!!!!Dino MonoxelosAmpeg Product Specialist There, found it.
