Members Jim-Bass
As per my other posting,I've just put flats on my Rick .....good for a experiment, but can't say I like them. The E and A strings just sound so dull. I'm thinking of putting the rounds back on, but maybe only the E and A strings. Would this cause adverse tension? The string gauges would all be in the medium range, but I'm wary of the neck being pulled tigher on one side. What do you reckon my bass brethren? Members Thumper
If you have a 4001 with a single truss rod, I'd guess the difference in string tension between flats and rounds might cause neck torsion. If you're looking for a more even response (bright but not too zingy or too thumpy), look into half-rounds.
Members Jim-Bass
...I think I'll put the rounds back on in the next 24 hours. I'll keep the flats in my drawer but can't say when they'll come back out
