Members Flâneur
How can I tell if SWMBO has a Trojan on her laptop? She began downloading something (can't tell what) and then got into a loop where she wasn't able to decline a supposed security update. Eventually had to tyrn off the pc. So, any quick solution? I'm installing Ad Aware and Spybot next.

Ad-Aware will do no good there (although it's a good idea to install it anyway). What you described sounds awfully lot like a trojan to me.

Members rpsands
TCPview is the easiest way to spot a trojan, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897437.aspx Allows you to see all listening or connected ports and what process has them open. You can go through them and look each one up pretty easily in most cases. Good anti-virus program (AVG free is solid) will spot them most always.
