I did almost the exact same thing late last week. In my case it was that I didn't have the tools/knowledge to replace a broken nut. I'm hoping to get it back on Monday or Tuesday.

I bought a camera with a couple lenses and didn't notice until later that one of the lenses had a screwed up aperture. Fortunately the person I bought it from was a stand-up enough guy to pay for the repair.
