U.S. reverses stance on treaty to regulate arms trade

The United States reversed policy on Wednesday and said it would back launching talks on a treaty to regulate arms sales as long as the talks operated by consensus, a stance critics said gave every nation a veto.

Strike another blow for IANSA, who would disarm everyone but politicians and criminals.

Kind of a non issue IMO. It's not going to affect availability in the US (unless you collect Russian or Chinese guns that depend on import) and it's going to make it so absolutely nothing gets done if every nation under the treaty has to agree.

That's the hope. But IANSA takes it one step at a time. Dishonesty is part and parcel to Rebecca Peters' and IANSA's way of doing things. These people are like a Gun Control PETA with government and UN backing. Their goal is a complete ban on firearms except for the State.

Our government wouldn't ever allow that to happen. Nothing to worry about.

Baby steps though, I guess. Control import and export and regular folks won't be able to get their hands on certain weapons. :idk: I can see the threat, but it's hard to believe every nation under the treaty will ever unanimously agree on anything.

I don't know if that's true. I agree that guns will never be totally banned, but remember we did pass a foolish "assault weapons" (whatever that means) ban, and we've already given the BATFE far too much authority over firearms. There were huge gun control acts in 1935 and 1968 that still dictate how guns are bought and sold and what is and isn't legal. They've never been addressed, significantly modified, or repealed.

I don't think the non-gun-buying American public knows much about the issue. For crying out loud, some people think there is still a "gun show loophole."

Well now that China owns the US, maybe the ban will be repealed under the new treaty!

Haha I was watching the Seinfeld epi last night where Elaine dates the communist guy, and they're talking about the collapse of the Soviet Empire and he's like "Well we still have China and Cuba" and she goes "But yeah, China? Ptch, c'mon!"

How have our fortunes turned. :)

Fixed that for you. Kanadians kan still purchase them in Kanukistan, komrade.

I forgot! Are they reasonable in Canadialand? The old pre-ban Norinco 1911s, which sold for $200 when new, are taking upwards of $500 nowadays, and most of them aren't even in that great of condition.

Maybe I should take a trip to Canada and shove a few AKs and pistols up my arse to be smuggled back across the border!

The 1911s run about $350 and the M14s somewhere around $400. It's serviceable hardware, but it's not Colt, Browning, S&W or Springfield. 'Rough-hewn' would be a good description. Attention to detail is definitely not a forte.

EDIT: http://www.marstar.ca/gf-norinco/index-lg.shtm

Don't even think about bringing them over unless you think your asshole is too tight.
