help: annoying overtones on Low E string

I assume it is probably the string itself but these are new Rotosound TruBass 88 flats. The Low E string has a weird overtone to it that makes it sound out of tune at any fret. I've checked pickup height (adjusted high and low).

and intonation (both at 12th fret -fretted and harmonic and also 2nd fret -fretted + 14th fret fretted)

I figure it must be the string..

Anyone else experience this ? solved ?

Make sure you don't have a twist in the string. Just loosen it until it's loose enought to spin at the saddle end and retighten. May or may not be the problem but hey, the price of the fix is right!

if y'all with the smartie pants replies would've actually read my first post, you'd see that i described the problem as an overtone that makes the string sound 'like' it is out of tune. Key words there are "overtones" and "like".

I've since found that the offending string was the culprit as I'd replaced it with a roundwound string that was installed previously. no overtones.
