Members CountGrishnackh
Recently becoming rather serious playing the upright, i'd like to get a decent amp for it rather than the lackluster SWR I'm currently using. I've read lots of good things about the AI contra amps, but I think those are geared more towards jazz and portability. This is specifically for rockabilly/psychobilly. I have the K&K rockabilly+ system on the bass. I think i'd like to stick with a smaller setup rather than a larger one, a 1-15" or 2-10". I see Ampeg has released those portaflex, they look interesting. Anyone have any info or opinions that could help me out?
Members Bassius
Have have been thoroughly impressed with Aguilar's Tone Hammer series heads and the super light 1x12 cabs. Give them a listen of you get a chance.
Members bassman1956
The Portaflex was designed around the upright, way back when. So yeah, if you want an authentic old school tone, that will get you there. They are not small, pricey, and weigh a metric {censored}-ton, so keep that in mind. You may run across a deal on a used one, if you don't mind a little more mojo worn into the appearance. The small GK MB-150 combos are long considered a standard for upright players for small gig, etc. Having both, I can vouch for both, but, they're very different beasts.I'd be interested in hearing the Tone Hammer as well. Members CountGrishnackh
Thanks for the responses. I was referring to the new line of portaflex, the more modern 500w model, I could never afford the old ones.
