I was thinking of setting up a pair of ldc's at mix position, sending the signal to a spare IEM x-mitter and using the body pack to send the stereo signal to the camcorders stereo input. This should give a nice, consistent sound to the camcorder, regardless of its position. Has anyone tried this? Pros or cons?

Yup... somewhat. I've used a wireless mic that sat stationary and set the signal to the camcorder using a receiver body pack with decent results. The only problem is really... the position of the mic in the room and the quality of the mic. Alot of professionals use this method. It certainly lends to a better balanced audio with the video. It's still an ambient record however so if a group of women are talking about their coldslaw recipe infront of your mic while the camera is is recording the dance floor, it will pick that up in the mix.

I still prefer recording off the board and an ambient room mic. A bit more setup but I have more control over the audio.
