Which is the best Rocktron Preamp??

I'm quite happy with my Rocktron Piranha.

I used to have the ProGap V2.0 .

I feel the Piranha is much nicer.

I think the tubes do make a difference.

They do add a little warmth to the signal.

The Hush in the Piranha is much smoother than the PG V2.0 Hush.

With the PG at low gain setting the Hush would pop when engaging. The Piranha doesn't.

I've tried the Chameleon and Voodoo. I didn't care for them.

They're all in one units like the Digitech and Art stuff.

I feel they suffer for it.

I like my rack units to be separate units.

I just feel the R&D on dedicated units is better.

With all in ones, either the Preamp lacks something or the Effects lack something.

I haven't tried the Prophecy.

I've read good things about it.

So that may dispell my view and prove me wrong on

all in one units.

But, I also figure if I ever build another rack

I could just get another Piranha and add a Xpression or Multifex.

Thus, basically achieving the same thing as the Prophecy.

Probably still do it for less used than a used Prophecy.

I own 5 chameleons

2 - originals

3- on lines

the secret to using them with other gear is to back off

WAY OFF the treble controls.

Until I figured this out - they were unusable with my

marshall - fender- splawn amps etc.

a few months ago and when i opened the box and saw the unit it looked like used shit. all scratched up and even MISSING A BUTTON.

i know that the unit was shipped from the factory..

Pro Gap Ultra also requires the treble to be somewhere between negative 3 and positive 3.
