Members RoboPimp
I notice the inside of the black cans I've looked at is black as well, does this make a difference with the way the can functions? It seems the polished aluminum can would reflect more light?
Members BillESC
Par cans get their name from the bulb they use. Par 46, 56 and 64 fixtures use a sealed beam bulb with a PARabolic reflector. This parabolic reflector controls the beam spread, in general you can order sealed beam bulbs in Narrow, Medium and Wide beams. A black finish on the inside of a par fixture cuts down on unwanted reflectance.

True enough, but in the greater scheme of things, I haven't noticed a big difference. I used black par cans for years, and finally sold that system. When I replaced it, I got chrome cans becase they looked cooler on stage.

I've never noticed a difference but there probably is a slight one. I choose my cans for the look of them. Usually black to be honest..
