Members ned911
We are playing a house party in a couple of weeks and I need to reserve the PA rental. For this gig we will be playing with a new drummer who uses edrums. Excited about this as our stage volume should be much lower but I'm not sure how this changes our PA requirements. Here is what we have: Power amp: Carvin DCM2000 (425W@8ohms or 700W@4ohms)Monitor amp: ancient Randall RM80 (150W@8)Monitors: 2 Carvin 722 (12"+horn) This will be the first time we rent mains and the local rental carries Yorkie U15's. Can we get away with 3 vocals, edrums and guitar through the U15's or will be need a sub. This will be for a house party with about 50 people max. Set up in the living room and jam. We will are your basic rock cover band (Green Day, STP, Weezer, Maroon5, Ramones, etc).
Members GCDEF
I use U15s. They have a decent bass response. Subs make a difference obviously, but for a small house party they'll be fine. Overkill if anything.
Members ned911
Update: Rentals are not U15's but PV SP5's. Does this change anything or are we good running everything minus bass, remember we are using edrums for this gig, through these speakers.
Members ned911
Gotta love rentals. After rereading my requirement the rental company thinks it would be best to switch to PV SP4's (2 black widow 15's and the RX22 horn) due to the edrums. Would SP2's work or do we need that extra 15" speaker to seperate the kick. This is a simple house party gig and I don't want to blow people out the door. Also not fond of moving 113lbs speakers. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Members GCDEF
For 50 people in a house SP2s are fine. The U15s you were originally thinking about are much better sounding speakers though. Make sure you put them on stands.
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted November 15, 2005 CMS Author Share Posted November 15, 2005 I'd go with the SP2's as well. If you can get them up over everyone's head somehow that'll be a plus.
Members ned911
Update: Bought a used Yorkville ES700P, same place rents U15's so I'll probably go that route for this gig.

That's a lot of PA for a living room.
