Members ned911
Now that we've picked up a weekly gig hauling the SP5's every week has become a pain (in our backs). That and they are overkill for the club we are playing weekly. Thinking of grabbing a pair of PR-12's for small clubs and to use as monitors for larger gigs with SP5's as mains. Saw lots of threads theorizing their use as monitors but has any one actually done it? Did they work in the role? The PR-12's are rated at 400 program and 800 peak. Double check but they should work fine with our PV2600 (700 @ 4ohm) right?
Members Singin' Dave
Not too familiar w/ the PR12's, but I believe they are 200w RMS, so, unless you know what you are doing, your amp might be a little too powerful for them, even off just one channel. CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted June 1, 2006 CMS Author Share Posted June 1, 2006 Yes, they work okay as monitors. Keep things in perspective...it's a $165 speaker, so it's not the flattest response, and the dispersion isn't ideal when used as a wedge. And it needs to be blocked up to sit at a 45-degree angle. But on a tight budget where you just need to hear yourself through moderate stage volume, it's okay.
