Members roryfan
Anyone seen this? http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp/2008/Hohner-Bob-Dylan-Harmonica-Collection.html Bob's Harmonica technique has been discussed here before. He has indeed been influential on many players (whether that is a good or a bad thing). It would be interesting to know if anyone who buys these will actually play them - they are valuable, with gold-plated reeds and "...have been played and hand-signed by Bob Dylan." Would you play a harmonica that had been played by someone else? (especially a smoker!) Did he just blow once into each one or have they been played out? I believe he gets a new set for each show. Members itkindaworks
Yeah I saw that a while back. He probably just blows into each one, so they can make that claim. I think you would be out of your mind to buy such an expensive harp that was played and signed by someone. It's definitely for collectors.
Members MattLivingInVan
sorry if i missed it.but how much are these goin for?
Members roryfan
Original retail price was $US700 for the set of 12, but as they were making only 25 they may be going for much more now. Definitely fall into the category of collectors items rather than working instruments. Harmonicas are pretty much disposable intruments anyway - professional players apparently got through several sets a year.
Members sunburstbasser
Its like Dave Monette for harmonicas.
Members MarkZ
Its like Dave Monette for harmonicas. If these came from Dave, you'd add a another 0 to the price and they would weight twice as much as a standard harmonica. And I'd probably want them. Members danrothmusic
I dunno...he wrote some good poetry (for what it was--you know, rebelling, political and so on), and his songs were pretty good, but he wasn't a fabulous musician in general...(note: this does not stop me from liking Dylan...there's just something about it...)
