A song for my Dad

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and I was hoping to post a few of my original songs that are still works in progress to try and get some feedback on songwriting. I have a passion for songwriting, but I am definitely unsure how to go about it technically and I really want to learn how to mix and produce. I am only using a microphone, guitar and laptop at the moment, but I have plans to put together a little personal home studio. I am hoping this community will be just what I need to get moving in the right direction! I am also looking forward to listening to other songwriters / producers! Thank you for any critique or advice ahead of time!

I wrote this song 6 years ago when my Dad passed away and I never kept going with it, but I really want to finish the song, as well as some others that were all inspired by my father's passing. My dad was a natural musician and due to his issues with alcoholism, I didnt establish a good relationship with him until the last 8 years of his life, when he finally became sober. He had so much to teach me and pass along to me, but we just never really got that chance. I want to pursue music again to honor my Dad and to hopefully inspire a stronger bond with my own kids. I hope I haven't said too much, but I just wanted to sort of introduce myself and let you know where I am coming from!

Thank you again!

* I am editing this because I just noticed I posted here in 2015 with the same song and I didnt realize it until now. Sorry if that is frowned upon.

Sorry for your loss. It must be difficult to continue with a song written during troubled times. But that's what allows songwriters to create some of their best works. I think you have a good song on your hands here. If you put together a higher quality recording with more complete production then you could probably have a great song.
