Members summit111
My Brothers, I'm a drummer in a Jazz group and a dance band. Last jazz gig, I set up an SM58 mic facing the band, catching the FOH speakers and stage sound, and connected it to my Shure in ear monitor system. That was my only signal, since all instruments are not mic'd. What do you know, it worked like a charm. I could hear the full sound of the band. I tried the same setup with our dance band just to see what happens, and got good results again. I had to experiment with mic placement several times, but I got a great monitor of the entire band. The other musicians had wedges, but I like hearing the overall sound. I've used signals from the board mainly in the past. This may not work in all situations, but now I have this little trick in case traditional mix from the board isn't to my liking.

Members dedmeet
Hmm, this may be a good idea for the 18-piece Swing Band I am in. On large stages, it is often hard to hear the players on the far side of the stage. Thanks!

What I like is having the stage sound and Also the overall sound captured. Can hear my drums quite well.
