Members KeroseneTrewthe
Hello, Im thinking about picking up a 106 this week but had a quick question about the battery. Are they expensive to replace? It doesnt need one that Im aware of but want to be prepared in case it does.
Members roblogic
You can do it yourself if you have basic soldering skills. It's easy, and the batteries are cheap and can be found at Radio Shack.

Members roblogic
If I recall correctly it's 3v. I'll crack my 106 open and take a look this afternoon to be sure, though - I've got some other things I need to do in there anyway. It'll have leads soldered to the board. You can retrofit a bios style disc battery holder to make it easier to change out in the future. I'm planning to do this when my battery gives out. Members KeroseneTrewthe
One more question if you have the time, The tape back up system? I downloaded the 106 manual but the tape recording backup thing has me confused. Is it just an old style tape recorder? How does it store the presets? Members roblogic
It's pretty cool actually - it transfers the data like a modem. I've heard rumors that you can dump and load using .wav files, but I've never looked into it.
Members KeroseneTrewthe
That is pretty cool. So I can use any stereo that has an input for recording?
Members roblogic
Yup - any audio recorder/player should do it. You can also dump and load the patches via MIDI.
Members roblogic
Here's a pic of the battery on the PCB, the quarter's there for reference. It's on the CPU board, pretty much directly in the center of the keyboard. It's 3v.
