How is the music scene in that area, specifically original music scene.

Scene.... what scene? Does that answer your question.;)

The Mid-Hudson has plenty of talented musicans... but no one organized to get clubs to showcase original music. Very different from LI. Bars that support cover bands are spread wide apart and there is no general consensus what to pay bands (gigs are DIY with your own PA) and original acts have only two decent venues to showcase their stuff. There are no agencies and no promoters. Some places will let you play... but unless you bring the crowd, the place will be empty, and you won't get paid.

Unless you are a cover band with a decent following (5-6 bands) then you struggle to get decent bookings.

Basically, the same as in the Rochester area. More clubs have their own PA, but there are only 1 or 2 venues that support original music. It's gotta be either "Mustang Sally" or "Brick House"

I don't think they're around anymore. The last time I remember playing there was around '96 or '97. Nowadays, the Water Street Music Hall(FKA "Horizontal Boogie Bar") has been showcasing more unique groups. Bela Fleck, George Clinton & the P-Funk All-Stars, Maceo Parker, Tuck & Patti, etc. have performed there.

GigMan -- there is a shareware package called MidiIllustrator by Rallentando Software which can take a .MID file, reorchestrate it, convert to two-handed piano, figure out the chords, produce Fake Book-style charts, etc. IIRC it's pretty cheap to register, and you can demo it for free, and the printed output is pretty nice.
