recently got an ART power/light rack unit for my 6u rack and now have four extra long power cords hanging out the back from the other units in there. any idea where to find shorter cords for these? no luck on ebay or with radioshack...

Aside from cutting and resoldering your current cables, try a local store specializing in pro audio and/or keyboards (ie, the expensive stuff) they tend to carry that sort of thing, or at the least would probably make them for you if you dont have a soldering iron.

If it's not a wall-wart, you don't need to do that. Just cut off the end about three inches from where you want the plug, strip the wires and install a new $5 plug from Home Depot.

Tools required: screwdriver, wire cutters.

eric - i think that'll be perfect, pretty well priced also.

Yeah, good call, Eric - I checked out Ashby's site. I like what it says under the power cords section in "Misc. Stuff" -

At AshbySolutions.com, we sell only two styles of AC power cords: the longest and shortest ones we can find! (Hey, you can get a 6-foot cord just about anywhere.)

Very cool!

Another neat site for odds + ends of the electronic variety is CyberGuys! -
