I don't know a whole lot about the ec1000's but I swear I've seen both...and I'd say the neck is very comparable to my les paul gothic's, although it's been awhile since i've tried one out.Kris It is the gloss finish, this EC-1000 was made when there was only the original 3 color options available: ASB, BLK & STR. I guess one man's 9 is another's 7. It has some belt rash on the back and some small chips on the back near the input jack. Had all that when I got it.
