Well, the easiest thing would be to tune up and see for yourself! Ron Middlebrook sez, " Open G (DGDGBD) has the root on the 5th fret of the 1st string and the root now on the 5th string makes for a very rich dominant sound." I'ts easier to play slide in open tunings, but you have to relearn the fingerboard for each one. Listen to Joni Mitchell who uses lots of open and alternate tunings because they accompish some particular effect she's after. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
