Members thespear33
Zakk Wylde plays with his guitar at his knees, that doesn't mean everyone else should do it...

Zakk also used to be able to solo with his guitar down there. Now he has to put his foot on a monitor and rest his guitar on his knee to solo. Members feedbacK
Yes, always...the thumb's right there, so why not?
Members Frank Prince
It depends on what voicing and usage I want. If I want the F# of the D chord on top I will use the thumb on the low E string. If I want the 3rd on the bottom and no 3rd on top I will use the 2nd finger on the low E and the 3rd and 4th finger on the G and B strings respectively. This fingering makes it really easy to go to an open G major chord, and also allows you to apply vibrato to the low F#!

Members dastardlydrvish
Yeah, most of the time, depending on the voicing. People's opinions differ on whether thumb fretting is kosher or advisable; as for myself, I do it pretty often for a number of chord voicings.
