Members meganutt7
I will say this... Regardless of his contributions to the advancement of thought in music theory and musicology, I am sad that the man the wrote one of my favorite (if not my absolute favorite) minor blues head has passed on.. To hear the genius of his compositional mind, check out his tune "Minor League".. My favorite version is on the Grant Green album, Solid. The lineup on that album: Charlie Rouse, Joe Henderson, Grant Green, Bob Cranshaw, McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones. SICKNESS. But Mr. Russell wrote a lot of super cool tunes... Of course, many of them exploit quartal harmonies and his "Lydian Chromatic Concept" is certainly on display throughout. He will be missed, but his lineage will live on.
