What's a good fuzz to get that ziggy stardust tone?

If you're looking for a reasonably cheap alternative I would try the Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz ($99). Use the "English Tea" setting in the manual and work from there.

Otherwise there are loads of boutique tone bender clones.

Edit: And yeah, you need the stuck wah to get that sound as well.

Not so good, its more like the Velvet Underground "Sister Ray" tone than Ziggy (so still cool but different). AFAIK these pedals were actually originally made by Solasound in the UK, so you'd be better off looking for a Coloursound RI (Pro MKII) or clone.

Agreed on ther Vox, the '90's RI has nothing to do with the original circuit and is very harsh, nasty and unusable.

Ronson used the Sola Sound Tonebender Mk. II, it was the last two-knobbed Tonebender in the hammerite case, predated the Colorsound. Not as dark sounding or as saturated as the Colorsound.

Pro Analog, MJM and others make clones.

But unless you have the cranked Marshall and LP to go with it, the pedal itself may not get you there. It is one element to the tone, and you might want to search for soemthing that will get you a combination of the amp, fuzz, etc. in one button.

I used to use a stationary-cocked wah and a green Big Muff Pi with a clean amp for a similar tone. Not necessarily recommending it for exact tone, but it was close enough for live rock'n'roll.
