Members GuitArtMan
Originally posted by Elliott Damage whats up with all this polarity nonsense? Actually there's allot to it. First the amps power suplies need to have the same polarity or you can be in for nasty hum/buzz and possibly a shock. This isn't such a problem now with three prong grounded plugs, but was a big problem back in the '60s early '70s. Why he doesn't add three pronged plugs I don't know. Second, the signal through amps may be inverted. I don't know which amps do this, but for instance you may play through say a Marshall and a Fender (I just picked these for example). When the speaker on the Marshall is moving foward, the speaker on the Fender may be moving backwards and vice versa, the amps will be out of phase with each other and the tone will be weak, thin, nasaly. He may refer to this as polarity. However, the big question is: what type of rubber band does he use on his fuzz face? I know the answer and I'm not tellin'!!! Members StompboxMan
Technically Eric Johnson's amps speakers move in the same direction. His tech works that out. Don't worry! Take your amp and listen to it, then change the speakers from plus it minus. Can you tell it sounds different?
