Boards of Canada (especially the new one - lots of guitar)
Mercury Rev
Trans Am
Mus
Elbow

and MY BAND. :D

Cool, I've got that coming in the mail, along with some Mono, Mogwai, and Growing. Hopefully I get some of it before the weekend.

Paik - Their Satin Black album is incredible. Warmer than the Mogwais and Monos, and sludgier than the Pelicans and Isis. Gorgeous stuff.

big plus one on paik.

heavy and bombastic.

i am in love with the first two jesu albums,

but am pretty cool on the new one so far.

i love it - he's stretching out more to get different sounds, rather than just the big BOOM GRRRRRIND thing the whole way through.

but i'm not a doom metal fan, per se - i only listen to a few of those type of bands.

thanks for the kind words. actually we don't use all the stomboxes on stage, i reduced mine to bout 6 pedals, but i always take the big board with me - it's so damn heavy :(

can't remember if these bands were mentioned:
low
idaho
the album leaf

cheers,

well, lots of people associate Fugazi more with the HC-style stuff.
but, yeah, they do have soundscapes and so on ala Sonic Youth so i can see your comparison.

btw, a coworker played Octopus Project at work and it sounded nice. sort of like Mogwai if they wanted to be more popular.
