Members freeridstylee
just posted this in the diy forum, but no one goes in there. Want to make an l-pad attenuator: http://www.webervst.com/lpad.htm
Members beardcom
good question. the ratings on amps are usually lower than they really are, and every company is different. what amp?
Members Jaymeister
How many speakers connected, how loud do you have it cranked, and at what distance are you measuring SPL?
Members hbar
Also how efficient are the speakers?
Members freeridstylee
Not too sure, just looking for a rough estimate. I'm using a classic 50 w/2 tubes pulled. Probably puts out 45 watts or so if I crank it. 2 speakers

Members Jaymeister
Can you stand in front of the amp at 3-6 feet with it dimed and pointing at your head? Is it painful...how long can you do this for? Do you play it dimed all the time? A rough guess would be probably 110-120dB at about 3 feet. OSHA lists 120dB as a standard stage level at a rock concert. 140dB is a jet engine at 25 meters. That is very loud. Go buy an SPL meter if you really want to find out. Members freeridstylee
Nah, just wanted a rough estimate, thanks. Looks like I can only get a 4 db reduction in gain from 25w resistors, and 14 db w/50 watt. Sounds like it wouldn't be worth my time. I don't want to play it dimed, just get it up turn it up about 25% (i play at about 40% now, sounds all too sexy at 65%, just way too loud)
Members PFDarkside
Radio shack sells a reasonably priced SPL meter, I think. IIRC, the bass response drops off, but for guitar frequencies it should be accurate. Also remember, twice the wattage = +3dB...
Members freeridstylee
Humm I found a way to make it do 10 db, which could probably be beneficial. I'm taking the speakers out of the equation so it may help a little bit, but probably not worth my time. Weber's attenuators all do up to 50 and 70 db. Although that would be dead silent. If I do each speaker individually I could do 20 db.
Members freeridstylee
Could I wire an 8 ohm 50 watt/channel stereo L-Pad in series to get a 16 ohm one?
