Members Agreed
Here's a little throwtogether I made in about 20 minutes with my Zoom G2.1u, the $165 iteration of their new G2 series. The poster above me has the G9.2tt, which provides many more effects and amp models and has two 12AX7s which can be blended in to provide natural distortion in addition to the models. It also has three expression pedals (well, two, and one of them has a side axis)My unit does not have the tubes, and only has one expression pedal, but it does feature USB recording and it has a drum machine as well. Here's the demo, three guitar tracks (one rhythm, one lead, one with a chorus and a phaser with the bass frequencies emphasized to give the recording body and depth):Obviously, I've got a ways to go as a guitarist, but it's fun to record and have fun with. I look forward to upgrading to the G9.2tt which falls a bit outside your pricerange, but you could get the G7.1t which is quite similar but has one tube, one expression pedal, and less models. Members HKSblade1
If you want effects only get something else like a G major. If you want amp models and all that stuff then look at Rocktron Utopia, ZOOM G series, and others. try them out since they'll wash out the amp tone with digital modeling.
