Lush Analog Modulation without a Volume Boost

I've been using an Arion SCH-Z for a while now. It is an amazingly swirly/dense chorus, but I am becoming frustrated with the extent to which it boosts my signal ... especially when it causes my amp modelers to clip when I'm playing clean with a bridge humbucker. My Behringer UF100 isn't quite as intense in terms of boosting, but also creates slight clipping at times. :freak:

Ideally, I'd like to be able to engage an analog chorus or flanger pedal and remain at unity gain. What are my options if I am looking to have modulation throughout the frequency spectrum without signal boosting?

A good number of pedals are like that.

I can't think of any for 15 bucks, but you might look at:

Boss CE-2: http://www.inrerocknroll.com/tunes/Chorus.mp3
FoxRox TZF : http://www.inrerocknroll.com/tunes/FoxRox5.mp3
Yamaha Magicstomp: http://www.inrerocknroll.com/tunes/HSFuzz.mp3 (you can set this to have a volume boost or drop, or unity)
Analogman Clone Chorus: http://www.inrerocknroll.com/tunes/PR.mp3
ADA Flanger: http://www.inrerocknroll.com/tunes/ADAZen.mp3

I know, I'm a gear whore.

i like a slihgt b oost from my chorus, it makes sure i dont get lost in the mix. i think most good desined madulation has a lil boost tot he volume since most modulation tends to expand the frequency range of the instrument for a live situation is great to have the slight boost

You could run it through a line mixer and dial in (back down the channel volume of the mixer) to even out your signal, when you engage your Chorus.

I presently have one of these on my board. It is occasionally used for modulation, but the majority of my presets involve reverb, delay, and/or pitch shifting. I wish that I could find an analog modulator with a similar amount of flexibility. Perhaps it would behoove me to invest in analog modulation pedals with blend controls.

I wouldn't have an issue with the volume boost if my preamps weren't clipping. Boosting is definitely a feature of modulation pedals that manipulate the full spectrum of a guitar signal. I once had a chorus pedal modded in a way that removed some of the boost and recall that the sweep range seemed kind of limited after the fact. :freak:

I was thinking about getting a TB loop with a blend control for my Yamaha Magicstomp. Perhaps my Arion SCH-Z could benefit from it as well.:thu:
