Members keith2112
I know 59 reissues have nice flamey tops and the R7 goldtop, R8 plaintops, but what justifies the thousand pluss more for the 9. Is the neck much thinner? Bassically, I'm asking is the R9 worth over three thousand. The R7 Goldtop is great but the neck is jumongous. The R8 seems very nice also with a huge neck. What is the big deal about the 9?

What is the big deal about the 9? Probably because they are a "1959" holy grail year RI. R9s supposed to have better flame but there's a lot of R8s that are flamey too. But you'd be better off exploring this topic over at lespaulforum.com - very cork sniffy over there but very knowledgable too. Then come back here for some rump roast. Members PFDarkside
I looked into this a while ago and the consensus is that the R9 is the cadillac with highly figured top, etc. and the R8 is the plain one.
