stupid midi clock question

i havent played around with direct thru on a midi card in a while. but recently, trying to configure my powerbook to mirror midi clock from the input to the output, i have had no real success with a reliable midi clock signal (on the out).

 

here is the setup: korg es-1 acts as clock master > m-audio firewire audiophile connected to powerbook > yamaha dx200

 

using ableton live as a mirror is unstable. the live midi clock is crap.

using max/msp is unstable for mirroring as well, as the control rate scheduler only runs once per millisecond (the midi out object doesnt accept signal rate data...).

 

any other suggestions? midi thru used to be so easy back in os 9 using the MOTU drivers... there doesnt seem to be any simple solution in the coremidi setup..
