Members XorAxAx
Anybody knows why this price crap is going on? By definition, the overpriced rompler market is filled with ... overpriced romplers. QED.
Members BfunQue
I just want to know... actually where did you find that European pricelist?! .... cuz sometimes there's quite a difference, looking at prices in european countries (Germany, France, Spain, Netherlands) and... also ... the XS isn't even introduced in Europe so I doubt any price you find on the www will be the correct one once it's in the stores (let's all hope so cuz I don't have 2700 euros) BTW........2700 euros for the XS7 would be fair (kinda), but not for the XS6 (the 1 I gotta have, sooner or later anyway)

Members MartinHines
How about Japanese prices? http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/web/?wb_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ishibashi.co.jp%2F&wb_lp=JAEN&wb_dis=2 XS6 = 228,000 Yen ($1,943, 1,460 Euro)XS7 = 258,000 Yen ($2,198, 1,652 Euro)XS8 = 318,000 Yen ($2,709, 2,036 Euro) Normally, prices in the U.S. are lower than Europe since the U.S. market has higher sales. Members tangerine
MartinHines! Well you are right, they sell more units over there but they could sell at least the same amount if the prices where the same in Europe, I am shure of that! If Yamaha XS is very expensive it will sell few units, but with the right price sales goes up pretty high=simple as that!

Tell them you will personally guaranty they will make just as much profit selling more XS's at a lower sales price in Europe Report back to us 1 year from today
Members DmitryKo
What's the point of this topic? Motif XS is produced neither in the EU nor in the US, it's an imported product - and as with just about any other Japanese consumer electronic device out there, its suggested retail price in Euro currency matches the price in US dollars. They do that not because of some evil conspiracy but because this price level matches the current state of economy in the European market (think about wages, VAT rate, customs taxes etc). After all, the Europeans do not have to value their income in US Dollars becaise they live in Euro zone and receive their respective wages and salaries in their local currency. The price in Euros has always been about the same and the reason why you might think the US is getting a "better" price is just the raising Euro and falling US dollar. If you like to apply everchaning exchange rates to the European price of the Motifs, you would be paying: -
Members vwizz
I'm mad too! It's always the same old {censored}ty story: look at the price of the MOOG LITTLE PHATTY: 1249 $, 1369 euros (which is approximately 1750 $ !!) On the other hand, even on European products: a Virus Ti costs 1655$ in the US and 1699 euros at Thomann!!!!!! And that is a German store and a German synth!!!!! It seems that here in Europe we like getting {censored}ed all the time!!! (not mentionning the price of cars or other goods like Apple computers for example:) ) V

Members stikygum
People need to take a trip to buy their gear. Spend the money on a trip. Buy the product in the US/Japan and then ship it to yourself. And you'd get a nice trip out of it. I doubt the Euro price will be 2700. They're not out yet right? So it's probably incorrect. I didn't realize it, but the XS is way better than the previous Motifs. the Big screen is a big plus along with USB.
Members vwizz
would you prefer to live in the US ? Actually my boss will soon leave for the US, so that's a possiblity. But I've been living abroad for 9 years in a row, now i want to settle a few years "home" before I leave again. Then I will re-assess the situation. Moving is absolutely not a problem, whatever the destination is:) But my wish list now is more Barcelona/Madrid/London...the latter being one of the most expensive places I know The only positive point of all this rip-off is that holidays in the US always feel super cheap:) On the other hand i guess american tourists must find Paris super expensive.. Anyway, now I buy second hand gear on ebay US, even with the shipping (i never have trouble with the customs) it's much cheaper:) V
Members Son of HuHefner
Yep, the US $ is in bad shape vs the euro. Been the case for a few years with no sign of improvement. To live in Paris and the cities you mention is a dream. I could accept high gear prices while living there. and it sounds like you have the ebay angle figured out. New stuff typically ends up on ebay in 6 months after introduction. Waiting a bit is a slight inconvenience.

Members MartinHines
I heard sweetwater was discounting these, anyone get a lower quote so we can haggle? You can always try to haggle, but retailer (and manufacturers) prefer you purchase at the MAP (Minimum Advertised Price). Normally it is pretty hard to get a lower price for a product that is just coming out. Alternatively if you have a long good buying history with the retailer they might give you a discount. You can always ask.

Members normthesamurai
You think you have it tough down here in Australia I was quoted $5000 for an Alesis fusion 6hd about two weeks ago! Now that was an obvious price f- up. most of the synths down here aren't that bad but you are usually paying quite a lot more then you should be (check out www.elfa.com.au or ) Actually I'm planning on buying a kurzweil pc 161 which retails for $2200 and I was quoted $1900 whereas the retail American is $1200 and the exchange rate is about .79 I think last time I checked (either that or I'm way out and just made myself look like a tool by not knowing my own currency ) but thats not so bad as most keyboards down here (I wouldn't even dream of triying to buy a moog little phatty down here)
