Members marshalles01
im debating which one of these to get. i know that zakk used the sd-1 with an overdriven amp and then switched to the MXR. what's the difference between the two (besides price tag)? i've heard that the mxr gives you screaming, sustaining lead tones, but can the boss do it too? Members Macdaddy Music
The Zakk is a bit heavier sounding than the SD-1. As with most things a lot of this decision depends on what you're trying to do as well as your budget.
Members marshalles01
im trying to get more smooth, sustaining lead tones for solos on the DSL. its got great crunch, but single note playing isn't all there
Members mark7171
i love MXR. but the ZW-44 is for O/Ding a pedal placed before it. like a distortion + to a zw44 for a boost. alone it isnt spectacular. but a good simple analog stompbox. the DS-1 can stand on its own. however it has the buffer SS circuit. to some that is undesirable. Members Purplexi
for live use i have been running one in front of a B52 AT-100 set on medium high gain. A little noisey but smokin' for leads. I'm getting as SD-1 Modded for the second time after my ZW44 got lost. They're great and also mod ready, check search for Zakk Wylde OD mod or ZW-44. Members SDSMusic
I don't have any experience with the SD-1 but I'm a big fan of my ZW44. It sounds killer with the Black Cat Moan wah before it.
