Members Craymaster
German customs only care about one thing (or actually two:) 19% VAT + customs duty. And if you're "lucky" and living in northern NRW, you may even get to know my "favourite" customs officer. Too bad I'm moving to Hamburg, I already miss wasting my time in the smelly customs office If you have some minutes to spare, you can find out the TARIC code: http://auskunft.ezt-online.de/ezto/ Edit: Oh, this time it's pretty straightforward, don't even think about importing an electric guitar (or even worse: a bass guitar) Here is your TARIC-path: ABS. Members orangefunk
I think I'd prefer the regular one y'know.. the SE doesn't float my boat too much... Can't wait to hear/read the reviews...
Members DocT
Thanks for the hints, Craymaster. The times at the duty office can be quite different, and there is not much you can do about it.My PEK came with UPS, who seem to accellerate custom processes as much as possible, via Cologne and was here in no time. The latest package from the US however, containing only a spare PSU, spent 2 weeks in Mainz, RLP, and it took 3 Faxes and several phone calls until it was finally shipped. UPS is the way to go if it's affordable. The customs handling is a charm, they even call you if documents are missing. Deutsche Post simply drops it off at your local customs office UPS does charge a fee for the handling though (if you're a private customer without special UPS contract, that is.) Members flattop
???Still don't see any spots! AFAIK, you are not going to be able to see them in the end grain. MuzikB is correct. They are the wee little light spots that you can see on the top of each endbell. The "spots" are medullary rays in the wood. Without getting too technical, they are vascular vessels that radiate out from the center of the tree. When a log is quartersawn, these rays play a more important part of the figure aspect of the board. Certain species of wood have larger and more prominent medullary rays than others typical species are the oaks (white being very prominent), sycamores (the planes for our european friends), lacewood (what I presume Dave is using). A Lacewood example can be found about a 1/4 of the way down:http://www.gilmerwood.com/new_unique2.htm For fun, take a look at some of the other unique board pages (you can find the links on the bottom of the page). Members dereksljuka
Let me preface this by saying I thought the Prophet 08 sounded great in Doc T's demos. I'm just curious as to why certain DCO synths have a bad rep while others, such as the MKS-70 attain legendary status. Surely all DCO-based synths must have the same issue with the oscillators being dead on pitch without any of that natural-sounding waver. This makes me think it's odd that the MKS-70 is considered an ultimate pad synth. Don't people want to have that VCO movement going on in their pads? That would be because most people commenting on DCOs don't know what they're talking about. So, to look cool and like they know something, they synthesize something they read one place, with an opinion they read the other place and post a string of words in an effort to seem both hip and knowledgeable at the same time. Alternatively, there are some synths with a better signal path, filter, and modulation options than others, just like VCO synths, and digital synths for that matter, and since these synths have been out for a couple of decades a general consensus has been reached about their abilities and worthiness. Of course, the people posting their views and opinions under this auspice feed the people whom I mentioned above.
