Members Noise...
I'm looking for something basic that will let me use my laptop as a portable guitar and bass setup. I already have what I need for keys on it... Is there anything similar to guitar rig that's free?
Members SylphCo.
Guitar Rig is free. You just have to infringe on the copyright a bit.

Members whoismilan
Just to make sure - Is this for a Windows operating system? I know of some LADSPA plugins for Linux, and on OSX you could probably use the GarageBand stuff for it (although I haven't really looked into it enough since it doesn't really interest me). please show ME how!!! step 1: put on Pirate eyepatchstep 2: visit friends on The Baystep 3: follow their instuctions to find the treasure There might or might not be hidden messages in the above text. Members Burg
If you have a Mac laptop then you probably already have a similar program - Garageband. There are some reasonable amp sims built into it. If you have a PC then IK Multimedia and Waves both offer time limited trials of their programs Amplitube (in its many guises) and GTR3 respectively. If you just want to bang down some tunes in the space of two weeks then this could be the answer for you. GTR3 is killer as is IK's Amplitube Hendrix. Both of them sound better than Guitar Rig IMO - I have all three.
Members Let It Burn...
There actually is a free guitarsim package with a lot of effects but I've forgotten the name.
