Members ounce123
yeah, so i was wondering if these things could actually power cabs? the tonelab, specifically, seems almost like that's its intended purpose. having used one today, it was like it was primarily an amp/cab modeler, and the effects were there as an afterthought, and at that point, why are you even running it into an amp? so yeah, i was curious if these things have enough wattage to power even a small cab, or if you need to run it through an amp, always. Members inkblot
It's just a preamp, you need a poweramp to get speakers moving other than headphones. I haven't actually tried plugging it into a cab but I can't imagine getting any volume, if it worked at all.
Members ounce123
yeah, i figured it wouldn't function as a power amp. thanks!
Members wader2k
actually most folks recommend running them into a PA type amplifier and then into a full range PA type speaker instead of into a guitar amp...... but I run my G7 into my DRRI ........ Members wader2k
yeah, i was thinking about that, too. how do you think it'd sound if you ran it through a pair of studio monitors? some folks use keyboard amps.....more of a full range setup
Members ounce123
Oh, so you could run a Tonelab or Pod or something straight into a keyboard amp without having to run it through a power amp or anything? Would it color the tone at all or anything, or is it as good as studio monitors for that kind of thing?
Members cg_25
Yeah, you need a poweramp. Those types of units could easily act as a pre-amp and all you would have to do is buy a power-amp. I wouldn't reccommend it though.
