Members StuckItToYa31
the drivey, Germanium fuzz tones of the Mojo Hand Mule or the Keeley Fuzz Head? I love these two pedals, but would love to build my own fuzz. I'm looking for a fuzz that isn't crazy (sorry, no "wall of fuzz" here), but has a great smooth, slightly-fuzzy crunch similar to vintage overdriven tweed amps. I'm interested in something that will stack well with overdrive, as well. Can the BYOC ESV Fuzz/Large Beaver or GGG muffs get the same tones as the Mule and Keeley? I've played around with the Keeley, but only have sound clips to go by for the Mule. If you needs clips, the Tone Factor site has some good ones for both the Fuzz Head and the Mule. Members i51423
A muff is absolutely not the way to go if you don't want a huge, gainy fuzz sound.
Members Wulver
Gilmour would disagree, honestly. VERY FEW of his Muff tones can be described as "huge, gainy fuzz sound".

Members Wulver
That, and running it through a tube amp just before breakup with a booster giving it extra edge. and stuff. But, yeah, black magic is a major factor I'll admit.
Members NITEFLY182
I would get the BYOC MKII if you want a wide range of gain and grit. Germanium is probably not the ideal place to start but if youre careful youll be fine. Silicon pedals are just less hassle and youre less likely to {censored} anything up while learning. Members StuckItToYa31
I like the tone of Germanium a lot more than silicon, and I don't need a huge gain range.

Then just build the BYOC MKII. It has a wide range of tones and a good deal of gain on tap. Doesn't mean you have to use it all but its there.
