Members Pankot
Certainly different compressors do have a different sound. Personally I would prefer the MXR to the Boss, but if you have the chance to try both out then why not do so - you have nothing to lose.
Members foxguitar
Well I answered my own question I demoed the Boss Mehhhhtried the MXR - clear cut winner. MXR is the IMHO the better of the two for me.

Members spentron
find a used CS-2 and be happy No, don't. The CS-2 has been convincing guitarists a comp is not the pedal for them for years. Some do get acceptible results, but it is a very odd pedal, with some characteristics that sound the exact opposite of compression. Dano's Surf and Turf is very decent. I don't have any real experience with the Dynacomp. A dbx 160x is the only thing I've tried that made me think I could do without distortion entirely. Members pencil-in
Neither!... teh Boss=rubbish, teh MXR=noisy EHX Nano Soul Preacher (when internal trim pot is set right) = creamy beauty!
Members MrChrisos
Ok, I'm gonna admit something here. I have a CS-3. I still use it. Here's my low down. It is pretty crappy, by all means do avoid. I only really use mine to boost the odd sound on the fly, or to let finger picking cut through in the mix. Having said all this the only reason it's usable is because I modded the circuit (my first pedal mod).
