EQ as a boost

IMHO, eq's work better as a boost than boosts.

They don't have the range your typical boost pedal does, but I find it more useful to boost only certain freq's, or some more than others, for standing out in the mix more without punishing people on the low/high end...

YMMV.

This is a pretty good example.

A lot of times, a SMALL gain boost, with a boost to the midrange frequencies will push you over the top of the mix without (like thud said) PUNISHING the audience with excess volume.

I don't disagree with the other posters, but I've found that boosting my Astroverb with a Blues Driver with the level at 12 or 1 o clock and the gain at minimum adds the little kick to my sound- while my EQ pedal with the level up doesn't add anything great to my sound- so I use the BD-2 instead.
I'm talking about 90's rock levels of preamp gain.
