Members pencho
Would an mxr 10 band eq work as a clean or treble boost? How about an OD? I noticed they have a volume and gain control on them. Thanks.

Members ninjaaron
And, for my money, EQ is the best clean boost there is. OD is a type of dirt definitly not a clean boost, though many OD's can be set with very low gain and used as a clean boost.
Members ThudMuffin
IMHO, eq's work better as a boost than boosts. They don't have the range your typical boost pedal does, but I find it more useful to boost only certain freq's, or some more than others, for standing out in the mix more without punishing people on the low/high end... YMMV.
Members chaosStrings
What ThudMuffin said. I disagree with only 1 thing: EQs, with everything at max, will boost MORE than traditional ones (typically 30dB versus 20).

This is a pretty good example. A lot of times, a SMALL gain boost, with a boost to the midrange frequencies will push you over the top of the mix without (like thud said) PUNISHING the audience with excess volume. Members JetCityMatt
I don't disagree with the other posters, but I've found that boosting my Astroverb with a Blues Driver with the level at 12 or 1 o clock and the gain at minimum adds the little kick to my sound- while my EQ pedal with the level up doesn't add anything great to my sound- so I use the BD-2 instead. I'm talking about 90's rock levels of preamp gain.
