Members SUV Steve
Now that I have upgraded the rest of my board to mostly true bypass, I need a wah that won't f with the sound when it's off. I don't really want to spring for a Clyde Deluxe or something because I rarely use the effect, it's going to be off 99% of the time. The actual sound of wah itself *almost* doesn't matter. I've been thinking about a used Crybaby and modding it for true bypass, are there any other ways to go that I should think about? Thanks!

Members Puddlegum
Get the Vox 837. It's the model before the clyde and it sounds fine on my board.

Members mitre
I just got a Morley PWV that I'm digging. The wah sound on it is an acquired taste, and it's not true bypass, but it's cheap, reliable, and the buffer seems to work well. YMMV.
Members Jisatsu
I used old cheapo crybabys for years, 95-03, and honestly the bypass didn't bother me too much, but during those years I never used one live and I didn't really use a whole lot of effects at any given time, so I never noticed a whole lot of tone sucking. Right now I wouldn't use one, as around 2000 or so, they started getting crappier. The one I picked up in 95 was just pure awesome! The one I got in 2000 had less of a sweep, seemed like it wasn't as sturdy as my old one, and generally sounded worse over all. I went to a cheap morely power wah and that thing just sounded like garbage when on, but with a big signal chain didn't really effect my overall tone when bypassed. People mention the vox and they are decent, but I don't care for their bypass as much. All in all, either a crybaby or vox, do yourself a favor and have a true bypass mod done on it. Members Jeremy Skrenes
I use a Vox V847, modded for TB. The only tricky part is once you mod it for TB, you might have to change the value of the input resistor. But new resistors are easy to come by. There are also tons of other mods you can do to stock crybaby and Vox pedals.
Members dsylvianfan
The Morley Vai Bad Horsie Wah is true bypass and also switchless. Apply pressure and its on step off and it's off. Variable filter as well.
Members Gonkboy
I've seen Artec wah pedals that are advertised as true bypass. Here's a link:http://www.artecsound.com/effect/index.html Might be worth checking out as the prices are pretty cheap. Looks like a possibility. I'm going to GC to check out a "Modtone MT-WH" which looks to be a Crybaby clone modded for TBP and LED, if that doesn't work out I may try ordering the Artec. thx

Members Wulver
If you can find a used BBE Wah, they're uniformly excellent. Q control, bright-as-hell LED, and since it does the whole David Gilmour backwards wah "seagull" trick, it's definitely a vintage-accurate circuitry. I'm not just saying this because I have one for sale, it's honestly pretty great. [video=youtube;TOjcPEBZSK0]
Members notjonahbutnoah
Wow, 2 in one day? Alright then. The Ernie Ball. Way underrated and overlooked pedal. I need to just make a demo already, I'm tired of describing it. It's very modern sounding, not for 70's prono... though it can cop that a little bit. It's a lot "rounder" sounding than a Cry Baby. You don't get that super harsh treble, but at the same time it's not way too bassy or anything. It's strong points are that it works really great with dirt and sounds good parked in about any position. Cons are 70's porn because of the treble roll off. I had one, got the AMT, then switched back one day when i decided to try it out again just for fun. True Bypass, LEDs, Sounds great, can be had for less than 100 all day on ebay. Just make sure you get a new one.
