Members KingVidiot
I would like to add a long ribbon controller to any of my keyboard controllers, much like on a CS-80 or a K2600. I've seen ones from Doepfer and older ones form Kurzweil, but I have no idea which one is the most versatile for the money. Is this a bad item to buy used? I plan to temporarily mount it to whichever controller I'm using at the moment. Thanks for any insight you might have. Would it just connect anywhere in my MIDI chain or should it directly attach to the MIDI of the board being modified? I guess the latency would be negligible. No. Ribbons are monophonic, or at best top and bottom note duophonic. The Haaken Continuum is a custom polyphonic surface with a very high price. Members niacin2.0
The Exopressionmate has 3 zones, so I guess you could potentially play 3 notes at a time, but it might be a bit awkward setting it up.
Members Marzzz
The Doepfer ribbon is pressure sensitive, available for purchase new, and is more robust than the Kurzweil ribbon.
Members veracohr
Oh man, I've seen that Continuum Fingerboard video before. It's awesome! Those controllers are super expensive, though, and I suspect they wouldn't make me a better player.
Members Prog
Ribbon controllers are potentiometers. That's it.
Members poumtschak
Don't know the other brands, but the Kurzweil XM-1 (aka ExpressionMate) is more than just a ribbon controller. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may00/articles/kurzweil.htmhttp://www.kurzweilmusicsystems.com/Product.php?product=162&tab=downloads Its a MIDI processor (3 x arpeggiators, breath controller host, MIDI merger, has its own MIDI clock, etc...).
