Members kpatz
There's no way to bypass a bad voice. If a chip is bad, or removed, you'll just get no sound from whatever notes call upon that voice. You could run in "unison" (Poly 1+2 mode) all the time and use it as a mono synth. Members 6.4 Billion
Too bad a voice cannot be bypassed, but as long as it's usable in unison, that will work. I'll look for one that has some bad voices already.
Members ElectricPuppy
I wouldn't call the 106 usable in unison mode, unless it had only ONE voice left. The 106 unison is hooooooorrible.
Members 6.4 Billion
Why is its unison horrible?
Members sizzlemeister
The DCO waves are locked on with each other. Sounds gritty and {censored}ty. VCOs have their own "clocks" so the waves are independent which makes for a nice, big sound. At about $325 for a full set of clones, that's not too bad to have the "peace of mind" the 106 is going last after the operation. I always liked the 106 and would probably have (another) one if they didn't keep dying. Even to have a carcass for $50 and repopulate the boards, it'd be a sweet synth on the cheap.
