Members filtersweep
I've held off on SP3 after reading posts this summer about Idiotboy's bad experiences. Getting tired of computers (which work fine as is) reminding me to install. Is it worthwhile? or more trouble than it's worth?
Members Tony Scharf
Its mostly just a security roll-up package that doesnt have any new features in it. Most of the important stuff is in hotfixes. It was painless to install for me, but others have had problems due to anti-virus programs running. You can always roll-back if it causes an issue. Members Gunslinger69
I've done it successfully on two out of two computers - one at work and one at home. My impression is that if you've done the regular updates it won't change much - that it's mostly a tool for IT guys to be able to patch the computers in one fell swoop. Members idiotboy
haha....penquin humour.... I eventually got SP3 to install without problem. Not sure what caused the initial problem. I'd say proceed with little caution.
Members Boogi88
filtersweep: You say your 'puters already "work fine as is". When it comes to Windows/Microsoft Update, what kinda guy are you? A)- an "EXPRESS" guy, that automatically accepts whatever THEY want to install, or B)- a "CUSTOM" guy, that selects only the "updates" and programs that you believe are desirable or absolutely necessary for YOUR rig. If A), get them to do it, and rest assured..... If B), you know that you don't need SP3 and its redundant 70 MB bloat. (isn't it ironic that their pushing for an SP3 install doesn't provide the usual "Don't remind me of this again" check box? Ignore it, and move on.
