Members hangwire
June train trip being planned- as far as I can tell the Hiawatha Amtrak only stops at union station downtown so I'll need a decent hotel with in walking distance... Any recommendations? Also jumping on the red line L, what is a good used pedal music store I can easily get to?
Members richard_def
not too sure of any hotels or music shops off the red line, but you can take the brown line to chicago music exchange. its pretty easy to get to. http://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/?gclid=CPSsxMzbvq4CFbIBQAodNR4cmwbe warned, there is not a ton of used stuff or cheap stuff, but its definitely worth dropping in and playing your favorite vintage guitar through expensive amps and pedals for a couple hours. http://midwestbuynsell.com/home.htmmidwest buy and sell is where you can find the best deals, but its way west of the loop where you will be staying. you can take the blue line and get on a bus and reach it, but it would take a little while. the plus side is that they are extremely nice guys and you can haggle the {censored} out of them to get really good deals. their website seems like its never updated but you can get a feel of what they have. http://www.makenmusic.com/make n music is also boutique'd and very easy to get to. schroeder amps is right next door too. avenue n guitars is on north ave. its another close one to get to. right off the blue line. smallish place but some weird cool vintage stuff and ok prices. i know another shop called rock n roll vintage is off the brown line but its further north. ive never been there. hope that helps. Members hangwire
Nope red or purple line only as we have plans to fit around. Been to all the stores: maknmusic and Midwest buy and sell are the only 2 good ones I would go to again that you listed. Nothing hotel wise near/walking from union station? Isn't it 5 blocks from the art museum and all that ?
Members richard_def
its close, but ive never stayed in the loop. there is a holiday inn 2 blocks south from union station on canal. closest and cheapest. im just assuming you dont want to stay in a really expensive hotel. no need for hotels when youve lived in chicago all your life :/ i need to go back to midwest buy and sell soon and pick up a new cab. so many friends have gotten awesome deals from that place. Members martha_KH
This is relevant to my interest as well. Me and a buddy are heading to Chicago the first week in April.
Members hangwire
I'm probably going to Priceline by area and just score a cheap place for the star level Midwest buy n sell was my favorite music store in Chicago back when I lived there
