Members swandiver
I have a friend who wants to buy a theremin, and asked me for a recommendation, but I've never looked into getting one and don't have any advice. Does any one know of a good quality theremin (or theremin clone) in hardware, either as a pre-built one or a kit? And what would be the advantages and disadvantages or a pre-built one versus a kit? Thanks in advance for any info! -Swandiver
Members KingVidiot
The Moog Etherwave Theremin is excellent for the money (around $400). It is built well, and apparently a newer feature-filled one came out during NAMM which probably costs a bit more. They do offer the basic one in a kit, but I don't remember it being a whole lot cheaper. I've seen other brands and kits online, but it's hard to see and try all of them.I have a Theremin to MIDI rig that I just put together, and one of these days I'll post it up here for posterity. Members scarecrowbob
A cool option is the Paia kit. http://www.paia.com/theremax.asp For $160 you can get the front panel, antenna, circuit board, and parts. I've always wanted to get one an build it into a metal Dukes of Hazzard lunchbox (I had one when I was little).
