Members brutalmoe420
yesterday at band practice my amp fried to death. the lights and power kept going on and off on the head and then it shut off. the smell of something being burnt to a crisp came from the head. i felt the heat transformer plate and it was incredibly hot. does anyone know what might have gone wrong so i have an idea of what to look for before i take everything apart? Members Robs Rockin Out
i dont know what would have burnt in there. Im not familliar with your amp model, but my friend has a V4 and it runs extremely hot. he put a small computer processor fan on it and it runs much better now. so he never had the same experience as you did with the burning. Members nwright
DId you have a cab hooked up correctly with regards to impedence? I'd say you fried your power amp or something. The smell was probably the melting wire insulation and whatnot. I've blown 2 power amp sections before and the same thing happened to me. some sparks, some smoke and the smell of fried electronics. Members brutalmoe420
there was no sparks or weird sounds. it just turned off and this smell of burnt electronics came out of my ampeg. i loaded it to the cab right. it was an 8ohm cab to my 8ohm head. the cab could only handle 120 watts or so, so i didnt think me playing on it for a hour would do any damage. Members Japetus
Here's the thing...there are 2 power amps in the VH140C @ 70 watts each. They are known to blow up. The good news is , you can just get a new power amp for it.
