Members flaming turd
ok, my hard rock band is trying to set up our own recording studio. here is what we have now: gateway laptop 3.x g, 80 gigs, 1000 megs ram, it's pretty loaded, brand new. presonus firepod krk rockit5 sm58(2)sm57pg58(or 7?)audix d6several no-name musicians friend mics. and we do plan to use various room treating methods. what else do we NEED? we plan to mic up the whole kit at a time, i'm thinking 57 for the snare, d6 fot the kick, 58's for the toms(?), is that pg good for anything? are there some cheap overheads? most of my budget is shot, maybe $150-$200 left for mics. is the 57 and/or 58 going to be sufficent for the guitars? also, will the 58 be ok for the singer? he has sorta an alice in chains/hootie and the blowfish/weilend/cornell type of thing going on. any other suggestions would be great.we don't need professionall quality, just good. thanks. Members Riverdragon
sounds like you have the basics covered. Which software are you going to use? Do you have the waves plugins? Are you using a mixer for the drum mics or does that presonus have that many inputs?

Members AnomalyXT
I'd take a look at the studio project B series Mics for overheads, you can get them for about $100 and they include shock mounts. great sounding mics for very little cash.
