Members FWAxeIbanez
Hey guys, anyone pretty experienced with rectifier tubes? I'm thinkin about adding a rec tube to my Bandmaster, I see they have a mod kit on torres engineering for several different rec tubes, and although I'm pretty sure it's out of my reach since I have no experience in amp modding, I have a friend with an electronics shop that might be able to do it for me... what are the main differences among the tubes, how easy are they to get, how long do they last etc... the torres information left something to be desired any tube cork sniffers out there tonight? Members guitarzan
The 5y3 and 5ar4 are still made by Sovtek. Seem to hold up way better than their EL34s.
Members FWAxeIbanez
well is there a difference in the type of sag? sag is more or less a type of compression sorta right? I'm only half positive I know what rectifier sag really sounds like
Members Ray18
that sag can be simulated by a resistor or two on the SS rect

Yes, you can use the ground switch on the back of the amp if you like. Also consider using a Weber Coppercap.www.tedweber.com
Members Casey4s
If youare going to and a tube rectifier to a Bandmaster, I would not even consider a 5Y3, it is intended for amps with a smaller load. You should go with a 5U4G / GB. You could also use a 5AR4 / GZ34 but there is little sag in that tube. My favorite for good power and more sag is a 5R4G /GB /GYB. I also highly like the Weber Copper Caps.
