What Is Love *headbang*

So yeah, just watched A Night At The Roxbury... laughed my freaking ass off!

Anyways, since we all know that "What Is Love" by Haddaway is outrageously contagious, I'd like to kindly ask gents here at KSS, if they care to share their insight of how to get that gritty Hammond stabs in that song. Sounds pretty amazing to me, and I can't bother much to get it. In fact I did twiddle with GSi VB3 for some 15 minutes, this is the closest I could get (mp3 in attachment).

Still I'm missing all that gritty goodness. Is it compression? Or the fact that it's 80s song does the trick? :p

Cheers!

I don't know, but here's a ... bunny with a pancake on it's head.

Here's all my iTunes songs with "love" in them, with maybe a few repeats:

Let me put my love into you

love in an elevator

you don't love me

crazy love

who do you love

love me do

she loves you

can't buy me love

all you need is love

i feel love

you give love a bad name

in and out of love

superman: love theme

sunshine of your love

i believe in a thing called love

from my own true love (lost at sea)

have you ever loved a woman

water of love

love will keep us alive

bad love

old love

space age love song

peace and love

radar love

that's what love will make you do

used to love her

hallelujah (I love her so)

the thin line between love and hate

cause we ended as lovers

love is green

... and the gods made love

the crush of love

love thing

all your love

key to love

to love again

hide your love

send her my love

i fond love (when I found you)

nothing to do with love

wild love

whole lotta love

all of my love

love in mind

when you dance I can really love

lotta love

there goes another love song

baby, i love your way

I don't believe in love

jealous lover

I need more love

the way she love me

love is the only way

publish my love

love's lost guarantee

for the love of god

i would love to

love secrets

money, love, and change

don't love you

ain't talking about love

when it's love

why can't this be love

so this is love

love walks in

deeper kind of love

love ain't for keeping

love tractor

back for a taste of your love

who do you love

That's way way too many. I'm sure someone has me beat though.

Aaaaahhhhh.... one of the mythical songs of my youth... :D

Btw, it is definitely not an '80s song. It came out in the early '90s,

This was really popular in Europe -

As far as the patch, it's probably a preset from a rompler of the era...

I think it's a Roland JV. The Dance board or Session board, or maybe the internal ROM......can't remember.....has a patch on it that I distinctly remember playing that organ part with (by ear). Pretty sure it was the real deal, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

Haha, so I can throw my Hammond emulations to trash :p and get a rompler to do it. Fair enough. That explains the grit, lower bit resolution of samples, I guess. Now, how can I get that one on my X5D? Would be nice to hear the raw sample of Roland's rock organ patch to compare with Korgs ROM, at least. Can anyone provide, please?

@mikelpanky - that would be a slowly sweeping single oscillator PWM, with a slight LFO filter sweep synced to tempo. Oh, and the oscillator is free-running.

While we're at it, what about the arpeggio at beginning that plays behind the "What is love? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me no more"? Right before the organ stabs? Any guesses?

No definitive idea, but actually, I kind of would lean in the JV direction for that as well. I'd need to bring up some flanged JV patch to know whether the JV's internal flanger matches the effect heard here.
