Members evildragon
So yeah, just watched A Night At The Roxbury... laughed my freaking ass off! Anyways, since we all know that "What Is Love" by Haddaway is outrageously contagious, I'd like to kindly ask gents here at KSS, if they care to share their insight of how to get that gritty Hammond stabs in that song. Sounds pretty amazing to me, and I can't bother much to get it. In fact I did twiddle with GSi VB3 for some 15 minutes, this is the closest I could get (mp3 in attachment). Still I'm missing all that gritty goodness. Is it compression? Or the fact that it's 80s song does the trick? Cheers!

Btw, it is definitely not an '80s song. It came out in the early '90s, This was really popular in Europe - As far as the patch, it's probably a preset from a rompler of the era... Members mate_stubb
Sounds like a Roland rock organ rompler preset to me. I used to have a JV-80 that had that kind of sound.

Members mikelpanky
While we're at it, what about the arpeggio at beginning that plays behind the "What is love? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me no more"? Right before the organ stabs? Any guesses?
Members deadvolvo1
I think it's a Roland JV. The Dance board or Session board, or maybe the internal ROM......can't remember.....has a patch on it that I distinctly remember playing that organ part with (by ear). Pretty sure it was the real deal, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.
Members evildragon
Haha, so I can throw my Hammond emulations to trash and get a rompler to do it. Fair enough. That explains the grit, lower bit resolution of samples, I guess. Now, how can I get that one on my X5D? Would be nice to hear the raw sample of Roland's rock organ patch to compare with Korgs ROM, at least. Can anyone provide, please? @mikelpanky - that would be a slowly sweeping single oscillator PWM, with a slight LFO filter sweep synced to tempo. Oh, and the oscillator is free-running. Members dan88z
Yeah, I think the sound you are using is almost too good for that part. It's definitely a cheesey rompler type organ, with percussion that triggers on every note, etc.

I'd need to bring up some flanged JV patch to know whether the JV's internal flanger matches the effect heard here.
