Members The Unknown
Hi ! I'm thinking about a synth... in my price range, I spotted the Novation Xiosynth 49. Any other suggestions in that range ? I want more then 25 keys and they need to be large (so that rules out the Microkorg... my big bass player's fingers just don't feel at home on such small keys !). I hope to get real suggestions... no misleading jokes please !

Members zoink
I'll second the R3, for its synth engine and the nice vocoder. It's a good choice that's not too hard to find used for ~$300-$350, though having only 37 keys can be limiting. If you like the Xiosynth 49, you might also want to consider the X-Station, which has a nicer control surface with more knobs and buttons. One thing to consider, though, is the difference in playability between a 37 and 49 key synth. I would say the jump from 37 to 49 keys is as noticeable as the jump from 25 to 37, as far as what you'll be able to play without running off the end of the board. 49 keys is a good operating minimum if it's your only keyboard, and 61 is preferable.
